How to Apply Thermal Paste on a Processor

Applying Thermal Paste on Processor
Sometimes there are issues where computer starts performing slowly and the performance continues to deteriorate every day thereafter and none of the optimizing tools available work,Even Scanning the machines for Viruses or running an anti spyware shows no problems. Its at this time to realize that the problem might not be with the software but an indication that the CPU is overheating. Now comes the question what can be done to prevent the cpu from overheating?well the answer is simple nothing can be done to stop thecpu from heating up but what can be done is the temperature can be brought down to a safer level to prevent hardware damage.Normally the ideal temp should around 30ish and the max temp should be 60 degrees but in peak summers it is ok if the temperature goes to 70 degrees even though it not risky if the temperature goes upto 80 degrees Celsius it might reduce the cpu life if it continues to do so.Now then,Now for the answer of what can be done to lower the temperature, there is a paste known as a thermal paste that needs to be applied to the processor to fix this problem.Below is a guide of how you can do this without professional help.

1.Open your motherboard Case.On your motherboard you will have a heat sink(A round fan it normally shows as Intel if you are using a stock heat sink)with four legs around it.You need to move the leg on the heat sink towards the right and pull the leg up for all the four legs and need to use a little force to pull the whole heat sink out once the legs are loose.Beware:Be a little cautious while doing so i ended up breaking three legs of the intel stock heat sink because of using extra force.Intel made a blunder having plastic legs a heat sink where you can screw it within the motherboard within a backcase would have been better

2.Now,you should see a layer formed over your processor and below the heat sink,This is your old thermal paste that has fully dried up.All you got to do is use isopropyl with a dry cloth or anything with 98% alcohol on it to remove the layer and make sure its so clean that it shines.

3.Once that is done take your thermal paste injection/bottle,Use it just as little as a pea on the center of the cpu.Remember if you use a lot more it will not help with the overheating,Once that is done use a card to even the space out of the thermal paste so it forms a single layer around the CPU.

4.Before you insert the heat sink back in your motherboard,Please make sure you clean off any dust it might have accumulated inside this will help in a significant increase in your computers performance.

5.Insert the Heat sink back in the motherboard very gently as i said since it has plastic legs they are easy to break i would advise you first to make the legs sit on all four allocated spaces and then press them with a little force trying to insert one leg at a time.

Once all this is done you would be amazed and might end up cursing yourself as i did for myself lol to say why you didn't do this earlier instead of wasting time searching for software fixes.

Please be careful when you use the opened cases on computers due to the risk of electrocution make sure there is no power or use a static cable while implementing the fix.
