One of the world's most loved email service known as 'Gmail' has now released a new update for its android app.The Gmail app for android now adds actionable notifications for smartphones that run on jellybean 4.1 operating system.

The best part about the new update is that it will allow users to delete,archive and reply to the incoming messages they receive through the tray icon itself rather than going into the application every time to perform such functions.

The updated version of the app is now available for download via the google play.

The update that google has released for its email application is a welcome addition.It will be nice to see other application developers making the same changes to their applications as well.

Apart from being time saving,The process of replying through the tray looks more organised and looks a lot more neat.

Google has been very busy with constant updates and recently also released an update for their chrome application for Android and iOS devices.The gmail for android app makes the following changes on other operating systems

• Faster search in offline mode,Bug Fixes,Performance improvements and bug fixes in ice cream sandwich operating system.
• New Labels API,Performance improvements in Android 2.2 operating system.

It will be interesting to see if at some point of time gmail app for android gets updated with the actionable notifications feature on the ice cream sandwich operating system as well.

Sony Xperia Z Screen of Death to be fixed in the next software update

Sony recently launched their latest touch screen enabled smartphone Sony Xperia Z.The Smartphone is said to include various features such as a 13 Mega Pixel camera and is said to be dust and water resistant.However the Smartphone lovers who have managed to get their hands on this latest innovation by Sony are a bit disappointed as the Sony Xperia Z screen of death that is appearing for a few users seems to be causing various problems.

Although many claim that a hard reset (Pressing the power button and Volume up key) seems to be fixing the problem,the fix doesn't seem to be working for everyone.

At the xperia blog Sony has confirmed that they will be fixing the issue when they release the next software update.However the company did not reveal the date or the amount of time it will take for the next software update to be released by them.

The problem actually started when a few users reported that their Smartphones were working OK at one moment and suddenly died for no apparent reason.

This might really hamper the sales of Sony Xperia Z for the company as they seem to have worked hard in making the device with a range of features such as

The popular Social networking service 'Facebook' is all set to implement hashtags (#) to improve their search and indexing capabilities.Just as in Twitter the Hashtags on Facebook might also help in organizing the conversation of their 1 billion users within a particular hashtag.

The # is a very easy option for users to follow a particular topic of conversation.Users are also known to put a keyword next to the hashtag in twitter to group a comment that revolves around a particular topic.

Facebook have been very frequent with their updates.Their recent notable announcement was in regards to the graphs search feature which allows users to trawl the network of their friends as well as information shared Publicly by other users.

The graph search does not allow users to search for conversations but the introduction of # might make conversation search a reality for the social networking pioneers.

The company has not yet commented regarding the official details of the feature but if whats being said is true,it might be a welcome addition especially for the users who are bored with the same old features within the website.

On March 7th,the company also recently revealed a New look within their newsfeed.

I think the hashtags on Facebook will be the best thing the company can do to compete with Google Plus and Twitter who have their set of Hashtags to join a conversation within a group or follow a topic.

A couple of weeks back we spoke about how the Cross-platform instant messaging application WhatsApp for Blackberry 10 was expected to release in march.The news that looked like a rumor has turned out to be true as the application has finally been released.

Brian Acton,The Co founder of this popular instant messaging application said that the release has finally helped them achieve their goal which is to make sure that people around the world can communicate with their loved ones.

WhatsApp have been very active with their updates on smartphones and had recently also launched a beta version of  holo interface  within the application.

As per reports the famous instant messaging application will allow push notifications and send alerts even when the screen is locked.In addition to the notifications the app will also integrate with all the contacts within the smartphone.

Users can now download WhatsApp for blackberry 10 free of cost and that's not all,BBM also known as Blackberry Messenger which is known as one of the competitors of the WhatsApp messenger will now work through a wifi connection for users who own the latest blackberry smartphones.The only disadvantage of the BBM now remains that it works only within the blackberry devices irrespective of which operating system its being used on.

The company has been severely criticized due to the lack of applications available for their smartphone devices.Most of the applications available for the devices were generally ported from the other platforms such as Android and iOS.With the launch of their latest smartphones/operating system hopefully the company will look more into their creativity towards new applications they produce in the future.

Twitter for Android update adds improved search feature

The online social networking and blogging service twitter has updated its smartphone application within the Android and iOS devices.The twitter for android and ios app will now include an improved search feature within both the platforms in comparison to the previous update.

While searching users will be able to see the query in real time which can also be seen while adding hashtags and composing new tweets.

Last month's update allowed the inclusion of older tweets in the search results.However it is unclear how far old tweets would not be visible while a user performs a search.

When users get redirected to a specific page after clicking on a tweet,the contextual tweet will appear in the bottom of the page (By pulling the tray icon) which will allow users options to reply,retweet,favorite within the same page itself.

The smartphone applications will now also feature a smooth animation which will allow the results to load much faster.

A few video upload services such as Mobypicture,Vodpod and posterus have been removed in application on the iOS devices.This allows the application to have its very own native video upload support which can only be done through Twitvid and yFrog.

A new feature within the Google Chrome iOS update allows the users to press the back button to go to the previous page within any tab of the browser.The update also adds a share button which will now allow the users to share the web pages on Google Plus,Gmail,Mail,Facebook and Twitter.

Google is also testing Proxy based data compression feature for its Chrome for Android.The feature has not yet been updated by Google but will reduce the data consumption by loading the optimized web pages through the Proxy servers of Google.Chrome for iPhone and android features might be different but the update guarantees a smoother user experience while browsing the web.

The Leading Social Networking service created by Mark Zuckerberg which now has over one billion active users 'Facebook' is all set to show off its all new Facebook Newsfeed look on March 7th.

The company via an email invitation to the reporters confirmed to unveil the new facebook newsfeed on March 7 at its Menlo Park, California headquarters.

The facebook feed displays a live stream of the photos, videos and comments uploaded from a user's network of friends.The last major update for the social networking site came in Septermber 2011.Recently the company also made an announcement that the Facebook games will focus more on hardcore gamers in 2013.

Even though the Mobile version of the social network service has not been up to the mark while comparing it to the Normal Desktop website the Social Networking Pioneers have  been giving constant updates and adding more features to the its application on the Smartphone devices with the latest being Facebook for IOS which now allows users located in USA and Canada to make free calls through the mobile application.

The numerous number of features that makes it one of the best social networking website are features such as instant messaging,Video Chat,Poke,Status Messages,ability to share videos and pictures and most importantly its user friendliness .

Blackberry recently announced their newest innovation 'Blackberry 10' based smartphones.The recent launch of their Blackberry Z10 Smartphone left many wondering for two reasons one was because of its steep price and the other was because of the unavailability of Whatsapp.That's not all a few days ago even instagram confirmed that they would not be offering a native app for Smartphones.Neeraj Arora from the WhatsApp team however put the speculations to rest confirming the Blackberry 10 based smartphones will be getting the WhatsApp application by March 2013

WhatsApp has further confirmed that they will be launching a native application for the smartphones.It will be interesting to see how the application gels with Blackberry's very own  messenger.

Until now the Blackberry messenger needed a data plan to work on but in the Blackberry 10 based smartphones it has been confirmed that the messenger would also work via Wifi as well which is a big releif

The Blackberry 10 needs to succeed for the developers to get back on track to compete with the big guns such as Apple and Samsung.The phone was recently launched and the prices are as per below

Blackberry Z10 Price:

• India - 43,490 Rupees
• Canada - $149 with a two year contract or an unlocked version would be available for $549.
• USA - $999 Contract-Free expected to be available soon.

Im not very sure about the Blackberry Z10 price in countries such as UK and Sri Lanka and the prices mentioned above are just estimates and not final.For exact pricing information please check with your local dealer.

With the Blackberry Z10 price being so steep it would have been nice if the WhatsApp for Blackberry 10 was ready before the release of the smartphone.

Facebook for iOS app now includes free calling

The worlds most popular social networking website continues to add unique features within their smartphone applications.This time the pioneers of social networking have included an option where the users can make free calls to friends via Facebook for iOS application through their iOS devices.

The updated apption for the iOS devices allows users to see when their friends are online and gives them an additional option to call them by tapping on their name.The feature however is currently limited to USA and Canada only.

The Calls made by users are routed via the Internet through data plans or via Wi-Fi hotspots.A feature of this version was introduced earlier the year.The addition in the Facebook for iOS app was an option to "like" content and post comments to the social networking site.

A glimpse of  the Windows 8 Firefox was shown on October 2012 but it is only now that the software has officially started to roll out by Mozilla.

 

There no news about when the next version of the Firefox browser for Windows 8 will be released however, TheNextWeb reports it may be may or June when the Mozilla Firefox for windows gets released as a final build.

Google is already offering the metro style Chrome application and Firefox is lagging behind.

Windows 8 firefox is not the only one mozilla is working on as its also working towards developing firefox smartphones.Keon and Peak smartphones for the developers has already been released by the company.

Blackberry Z10 one of the best smartphone of 2013?

Blackberry Z10 release off to a great start

As Blackberry tries to make its way back to the smartphone industry with the launch of their two Blackberry 10 based Smartphones  Blackberry Z10 and Q10 a lot of people tend to think this is a make or a brake situation for the company which was formerly known as Research in motion.

The report in AllThingsD has confirmed that the white colored Z10 is practically sold out across the United Kingdom and are estimating the sales to be at least several hundred thousand units if not more.

The reports has also further confirmed that preorders of the new blackberry 10 based phones in other countries such as UAE have also been solid.

Blackberry Z10 and Q10 release date:

• Canada and China on February 5.
• Middle-east, another market on February 10
• United States sometime in April.

The interesting thing to know is that the Z10 was available for purchase via eBay for a staggering price of $1500.

One of the reasons of Blackberry's drop from one of the top smartphones might have been the worldwide outage which happened a year or two back might have done a lot of harm to the company's reputation which promises to have one of the most secure servers around.The outage caused massive panic with a lot of Blackberry users especially corporate users who used the phones to receive emails.The outage lasted much longer than expected.

Facebook games are set to move the online gaming a step ahead as they prepare to go up one level soon.The trial by nWay seems to have gone very well last year where the sci-fi combat game "ChronoBlad" was tested.

Dave Jones(Chief Creative Officer of nWay) who had previously worked with Grand Theft Auto stated that he had no idea that a game of such quality could be created for Facebook.

The company has also gone to the extent of confirming that nWay and a few other developers will be able to extend console type of games within Facebook.

Facebook games is expected to launch 10 high quality games created by the third party developers in 2013.These will target mostly hardcore gamers.

The main effort of all this will be to get more Facebook users login to the social network website and stay for a longer time.


Just as in Xbox Live,Facebook is also expected to have a social layer within the games which will allow the users to interact among themselves and get a rich multiplayer experience.

With Facebook targetting Hardcore games we can expect to see a rich gaming experience and this will also end up opening the door for hardcore gamers to play these facebook games

 Apple to Release a 4.94 Inch Iphone Plus:

Iphone Plus is expected to be include a big screen display.In the recent past there have been many Mobile Companies Such as Samsung,HTC and Sony who have already reached around the 5 inch display screen mark with their mobile phone products.iPhone slowly seems to be loosing the market because many people are shying away from them and preferring the Android device for a larger screen phone.With that being said iPhone Plus might just win back some more customers for Apple.

Even though iPhone 5 is one of the highest selling  iPhone till date, it has not managed to stop people from looking for other products with a bigger display.The Device will be a welcome addition for the customers who don't want to use another phone apart from apple but require a larger screen.
Instapaper creater and a frequent voice in the apple developer community,Marco Arment has penned his thoughts on the Display specification of the device.

Iphone Plus Display Specification:

• 4.94-inch iPhone Plus with 16:9 aspect ratio 
• 640×1136 resolution
• pixel density of 264ppi.

He futher goes on to say that iPhone Plus will not be replacing the iPhone will be an additional option for the buyers.
