The Best Gaming Experience of the 90's !!!!

I still remember when i was a kid there used to be these machines which came out before pentiums existed known as 486,386 and 286 models these were a huge hit during 80's and this was the time when the laptop were non affordable or didnt  exist at all.The monitors that existed during this time were black and white but when you think about the joy you used to get while gaming that was totally unimaginable there were many huge hits of games that came out during those days such as

  1. PacMan

This is one game im sure everyone will remember and would have played in someway or the other.Pac-Man  is an arcade game developed by Namco and licensed for
distribution in the United States by Midway, first released in Japan on May 22, 1980.Immensely popular from its original release to the present day, Pac-Man is considered one of the classics of the medium, virtually synonymous with video games, and an icon of 1980s popular culture.Upon its release, the game—and, subsequently, Pac-Man derivatives—became a social phenomenon that sold a bevy of merchandise and also inspired, among other things, an animated television series and a top-ten hit single. When Pac-Man was released, the most popular arcade video games were space shooters, in particular Space Invaders and Asteroids. The most visible minority were sports games that were mostly derivative of Pong. Pac-Man succeeded by creating a new genre and appealing to both genders.Pac-Man is often credited with being a landmark in video game history, and is among the most famous arcade games of all time.It is also one of the highest-grossing video games of all time, having generated more than $2.5 billion in quarters by the 1990s.The character has appeared in more than 30 officially licensed game spin-offs,as well as in numerous unauthorized clones and bootlegs.According to the Davie-Brown Index, Pac-Man has the highest brand awareness of any video game character among American consumers, recognized by 94 percent of them.Pac-Man is one of the longest running video game franchises from the golden age of video arcade games, and one of only three video games that are on display at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. (along with Pong and Dragon's Lair). So Basically The object of the game was just to keep eating the fruits/food and not to bite the ghost,at this moment how silly this game sounds was nothing compared to how hot it was during its time but if you try to play it now as well it will pass your time very well !!.

2.Monster Bash

Im not sure many of you guys will be knowing about this game,i remember getting a 486 system in those days just to play this game and getting a color monitor which were also quiet rare in those days,This was basically a side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Apogee Software on 9 April 1993 for MS-DOS PC. The game features 16-color EGA graphics and IMF AdLib compatible music. It was developed by Frank Maddin and Gerald Lindsly. The game is divided in three episodes. The first episode of the game is available to download under a shareware license, but the two remaining parts of the game must be purchased. The registered game also removes advertisements and reminders of the benefits of purchasing the games from the first episode and enables cheat code functionality. The objective of this game was quiet simple keep killing zombies, free the dogs it was one of the best horror survival games of those days that i had played !!
03.Commander Keen
This was unarguably the best stoyline game ever created at that time.if not it damn sure was very close to it.
Commander Keen is a series of video games developed by id Software in the early 1990s. The series focuses on the adventures of Billy Blaze, an 8-year old boy who travels through space and assumes the identity "Commander Keen". The series was successful at replicating the side-scrolling action of the Nintendo Entertainment System Super Mario Bros. games in DOS. The cartoon-style platform games are notable for their pioneering use of EGA graphics and shareware distribution, and they were some of the first games by id Software (which went on to develop blockbusters like Doom and Quake). The games were also exciting to the PC gaming community of the time because of John D. Carmack's smooth-scrolling graphics engine. Although developed by id, most of the Commander Keen games were published by Apogee Software, an already established DOS shareware game publisher. Tom Hall is Commander Keen's designer and the creator of its universe. The games (with the exception of "Aliens Ate My Babysitter") were made available on Steam on August 3, 2007.I still remember jumping on a pogo on this game and killing the snails going underground everything about this game was sooo much of fun..

04.Risky Woods
Risky woods was another one of those finely crafted horror survival games of the 90's,the graphics looked so amazing at those times that you never imagined it could get better than that.Risky Woods, known as Jashin Draxos  in Japan, is a computer game developed by Dinamic Software and Zeus Software, and published by Electronic Arts in December 1992. Its release marks the end of the Golden Era of Spanish Software. The game has a side-scroll view, and a fantasy theme. The game has been criticized as being relatively difficult and being somewhat chaotic in terms of how much is happening on-screen.This game truly needs to be recreated as a 2012 version with improved graphics im sure it would break almost all the box office of gaming records !

05.Shadow Knights

Shadow Knights was one of those Ninja kind of games which was not very easy to play but it was quiet fun.Shadow Knights is a platform game created by id Software and published by Softdisk in 1991.This is one of the several games written by id Software to fulfill their contractual obligation to produce games for Softdisk, where the id Software founders formerly were employed. It is a basic platform game with a considerable influence by the early Ninja Gaiden games.

06.Populous

This was one of the best military games created for its time.Populous is a computer game developed by Bullfrog in 1989 and is regarded by many as the first PC God game In 1991, Populous won the Origins Award for Best Military or Strategy Computer Game of 1990 as well as 1990 Computer Game of the Year in American video game magazine Video Games & Computer Entertainment. It was the first game in the Populous series, preceding Populous II and Populous: The Beginning.

07.Prince of persia 1

Everyone in this generation remembers prince of persia which has released recently such as prince of persia sands of time, prince of persia two thrones, prince of persia warrior within or prince of persia the forgotten sands.I remember prince of persia from the day the very first prince made his appearance in gaming.Prince of Persia is a video game franchise created by Jordan Mechner, originally developed for and released on the Apple II Computer in 1989. The original game and its first sequel were 2D platform games, but the series made the switch to three-dimensional following the release of Prince of Persia 3D in 1999.Even though Mechner has been involved with the series in varying capacities throughout its history, the games themselves have been developed and published by several different companies. The first two games in the series, Prince of Persia and Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, were developed by Brøderbund. Prince of Persia 3D was developed by Red Orb Entertainment and published by The Learning Company on PC, and developed by Avalanche Software and published by Mattel Interactive on Sega Dreamcast. French-based video game company Ubisoft began developing and publishing the series in 2003 with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and so far have been the most prolific of any company in bringing out new games in the series.A film based on the series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, was written by Mechner and released theatrically by Walt Disney Pictures in May 2010.Even though the sound used to primaraly be from the internal speaker this game had amazing  music and a great story line

08.Prince of persia 2 shadow and the flame

I dont care its 2012,i would still say it,this is one of the best graphically designed games ever created with a beautiful storyline Similar to the first Prince of Persia, the character explores various deadly areas by running, jumping, crawling, avoiding traps, solving puzzles and drinking magic potions. Prince of Persia 2 is, however, more combat-heavy than its predecessor. In the first game, enemies appear only occasionally and are always alone, while in the sequel, up to four enemies may appear at once, sometimes flanking the player, and may even be instantly replaced by reinforcements when they are killed. As in Prince of Persia, the trick is to complete the game under a strict time limit that passes in real time. Lives are unlimited, but time cannot be regained (except by reverting to a previously saved game). In other areas, more significant improvements have been made. The graphics are far more complex than the simple look of the game's predecessor, the areas explored are larger, and the variety of backdrops is greater.Amazing amazing game, this is one game i still play on dosbox even though it does not work on windows 7

08.Tom and Jerry Catastrophe:

I know I know this is a pretty kiddish game, but trust me even if you play this now through the dosbox you are going to enjoy this like crazy. This game is pretty simple you are jerry and need to trouble tom as much as you can there are three ways you can do so by moving around and dodging tom if he misses catching you you get points at the same time you can drive a small jerry car,fly with bulbs to throw on tom and throw eggs/tomato on him its quiet fun really !!!

09.Doom

How can i forget doom was one of the best horror games ever to be created and has its legacy till today we also had doom 3 which released not too long ago which lived up to the expectations.Doom (typeset as DOOM in official documents)is a 1993 first-person shooter video game by id Software. It is widely recognized for having popularized the first-person shooter genre, pioneering immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming, and support for customized additions and modifications via packaged files in a data archive known as "WADs". Its graphic and interactive violence,as well as its Satanic imagery, also made it the subject of considerable controversy. In Doom, players assume the role of a space marine, popularly known as "Doomguy", who must fight his way through a military base on Mars' moon, Phobos, and kill the demons from Hell. With one third of the game (9 levels) distributed as shareware, Doom was played by an estimated 10 million people within two years of its release, popularizing the mode of gameplay and spawning a gaming subculture; as a sign of its effect on the industry, games from the mid-1990s boom of first-person shooters are often known simply as "Doom clones". According to GameSpy, Doom was voted by industry insiders to be the greatest game of all time in 2004.The game was made available on Steam on August 3, 2007.The Doom franchise was continued with the follow-up Doom II: Hell on Earth (1994) and numerous expansion packs, including The Ultimate Doom (1995), Master Levels for Doom II (1995), and Final Doom (1996). Originally released for PC/DOS, the games have later been ported to numerous other platforms. Once the game's source code was released in 1997, it spawned even more adaptations, as fans further ported the code to countless devices. The series started to lose mainstream appeal as the technology of the Doom game engine was surpassed in the mid-1990s, although fans have continued making WADs, speedruns, and modifications to the original. The franchise again received popular attention in 2004 with the release of Doom 3, a retelling of the original game using new technology, and an associated 2005 Doom motion picture. On May 7, 2008, following speculation by John Carmack at QuakeCon on August 3, 2007, Doom 4 was announced as in production. The game is neither a sequel to Doom 3 nor a new beginning of the franchise and it will use the company's new id Tech 5 engine. On June 26, 2009, John Carmack released Doom Resurrection, a new game developed by Escalation Studios for iOS and published by id Software. The setting for Doom Resurrection takes place parallel to Doom 3, and it uses characters and art from it.

10.Mortal Kombat

When it comes to fighting games nothing seems to be better than mortal combat.Im sure most of us here would agree that mortal combat was one of the best fighting games created ever.it is is a series of fighting games created by Ed Boon and John TobiasThe first four renditions and their updates were developed by Midway Games and initially released on arcade machines, and later to home consoles. The arcade titles were later picked up by Acclaim Entertainment for the home console conversions. Beginning with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Midway Games exclusively created home versions of Mortal Kombat up until Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Following Midway's bankruptcy, the franchise was picked up by Warner Bros. in July 2009 and became a part of the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The most recent title is Mortal Kombat which is an alternate retelling of the events from the first three games in the series. The development of the first game was originally based on the actor martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme, but that idea fell through and Mortal Kombat was born instead. As a result of its success, Mortal Kombat has spawned many sequels and has been spin off into several adventure games, films (animated and live-action with its own sequel), and television series (animated and live-action). Other spin-offs include various comic book series, a card game and a live-action tour. The series is known for its high levels of bloody violence, including, most notably, its Fatalities—finishing moves, requiring a sequence of buttons to perform, which, in part, led to the creation of the ESRB.The series name itself is also known for using the letter "K" in place of "C" for the hard C sound, thus intentionally misspelling the word "combat," as well as other words with the hard C sound within later games in the series. The first few games in the series were especially noted for its realistic digitized sprites (which differentiated it from its contemporaries' hand-drawn sprites), as well as the prominent use of palette swapping to create new characters.pretty awesome list isnt it...there were just a few of my best gaming experience of the 90's and ones which i will never forget in my life !!!!
