It feels like an end of an era for the mass effect game series after a confirmation was made by Bioware to VG247 that Shepard's story has been completed, and the captain will no longer be a part of any upcoming mass effect games.
Bioware also confirmed that the Mass Effect universe is huge and currently they are not even sure of what kind of time frame they are going to go into.They are however gathering ideas from teams,feedbacks to see several things.
When the question of who may replace Shepard comes Bioware has said that they don't want to make 'Shepard 2', or Mass Effect 4 with "Oh there is no more Shepard but you're a soldier in the universe". So this will be of very different context , and nothing has been decided on the rest.So we will have to just wait and see how this goes.
