Earlier reports confirmed that on March 15th 2013 windows messenger will officially retire giving way to Skype, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5 billion.
This might be a rumor as nothing official is out yet but if it is to be believed CVG report has confirmed as per the anonymous source that plans are in place by Microsoft to consolidate its communications technology around Skype in the future and there are also plans of them implementing it as the default chat service on their next gen consoles,PC'S as well as tablets.
As of now nothing official by Microsoft is out yet but it would be interesting to know how Microsoft rolls out Skype's and how the transition ends up within the existing windows messenger users
