During November 2012 there were reports that suggested that the Live Messenger was giving way to Skype. The same confirmation had been received from Microsoft as well who have confirmed the change will take place in the first quarter 2013.
Recently there was an email sent from the messenger team to the Live messenger users which asks the users to upgrade to Skype as it will be retiring on 15th March 2013 worldwide except China.
